OPINION: PLASTIC IS ONLY PART OF THE PROBLEM
"Picking up plastic on the beach won’t help prevent the destruction of our oceans as much as you think it will.

Now don’t get me wrong, it won’t hurt either, but the issue extends beyond merely plastic pollution. Instead, it traces back to the multi-billion dollar industry that makes its way straight to the dinner table: fishing.

The corruptions within the fishing industry are more widespread than ever. Millions of fish and other sea life are being caught every day, bycatch making up an astonishing 40% of that. Ultimately, that means that two-fifths of fish being contained are either unused or unmanaged."
OPINION: INTERSECTIONALITY IS KEY TO MODERN FEMINISM
"The battle for women’s justice is the battle for economic justice, LGBTQ+ justice, and racial justice, all intertwined.

While being a feminist may mean something different to everyone, it always has a common ground: to fight for the issues central to women and uplifting the voices that have been silenced for so long. But now, the advocacy of gender equality goes beyond that."
OPINION: WE MUST KEEP FIGHTING FOR JUSTICE IN POST-ELECTION AMERICA
"In an era of massively re-energized politics, the year 2020 transformed America with a surge in civic engagement and youth activism. Now, as we enter a new year with a different administration, this transformation has the potential to grant us lasting change.

While we’ve only recently seen its most profound impacts, those in power have been challenged by the rise of the modern world’s most overlooked voices like never before
SAVING LIVES 22 MILES AT A TIME
This project was a journey in itself, to say the least. When I first heard about a local firefighter hiking across coastal California to raise awareness for veteran suicide, I knew I had to get an interview and share his story. Determined, I contacted his team and drove nearly 3 hours away at 5 a.m. to meet up with him at his morning starting point. In the deeply personal interview I had with him, as tears rushed down his face and the pain of his journey settled in, I myself struggled to keep my professional journalistic composure. With this, as my brief hike with him came to an end, I set out to write an article that honored him and his mission as much as I saw possible.
FINDING BEAUTY IN THE ASHES
This piece intended to highlight an often unseen part of our community, a monthly art institution that featured local artists with a goal of spreading impactful messages through their work. This particular showcase represented the devastating California wildfires and their impact on people throughout the state.
SAN JOSE WATER LANTERN FESTIVAL IGNITES A SENSE OF COMMUNITY
As my first article ever, this holds a special place in my heart. Here, my journalist partner and I not only interviewed and reported on the festival, but we were able to experience the emotional and impactful stories behind each lantern released.
